What is Silicosis?

Silica is a compound formed from silicon and oxygen, often found in quartz, flint, agate, beach sand, sandstone and glass. When Silica particles are inhaled, it results in the formation of scar tissue in the lungs preventing oxygen from getting in the blood. This condition eventually results in a disease called Silicosis, an incurable and progressive lung disease. Approximately 300 people die from the disease every year in the United States.

More than one million workers are occupationally exposed to crystalline silica dusts in the United States. According to the World Health Organization, more than 100,000 of these workers are sandblasters. What is alarming is that 59,000 of them will eventually develop silicosis.

Sandblasting and Silicosis:

In Sandblasting, compressed air or steam is used to project a stream of abrasive particles onto a surface, which commonly includes materials like silica sand. Sandblasters or workers who operate this process are continually exposed to the harmful substance while cleaning sand and irregularities from foundry castings, removing paint etc because the silica sand used in abrasive blasting normally breaks up into fine particles and becomes airborne. Since these silica particles are invisible to the naked eye, workers may not be

There are two ways a person can become a bankrupt. The first and more common way is to have the person file a petition to voluntarily go bankrupt. The second, and rarely used way, is for creditors to ask the Court to make an Order that a person is bankrupt. In both these cases a Bankruptcy Trustee is required to administer the bankruptcy. (see Filing Bankruptcy)

The two main types of bankruptcies available to individuals deal with different debt situations in different ways. The typical Chapter 7 debtor has few assets and considerable debts primarily associated with credit cards, store purchases, hospital bills and other dischargeable debts. Creditors are paid, if at all, from anything that the debtor currently owns that cannot be claimed as exempt. Certain debts are not dischargeable in a Chapter 7 proceeding but are dischargeable in a Chapter 13. Dischargeable means that by filing for bankruptcy you will not have to pay the debt if the court grants the discharge.

Typical Bankruptcy Filings
The typical Chapter 13 debtor files because the debtor is in arrears with rent, mortgage payments, car loan or other secured debt, because the debtor has substantial debts which cannot be discharged

Does the cost of gas have you fuming at the pump? If carpooling and public transportation are not the answers for you, you’ll be happy to know there are ways to improve your fuel economy no matter what type of car you are driving.

Here are some good habits to practice for better gas mileage, from XenTx.com:

* Drive safely. Aggressive driving wastes gas fast. Hard braking or jackrabbit takeoffs can waste gas and curb mileage by as much as 33 percent at highway speeds, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

* Slow down. The faster you drive, the more gas you waste and the more money you lose at the pump. Each mile per hour you drive over 60 is like paying an extra 10 cents per gallon, according to DOE.

* Keep it covered. Your gas cap, that is. About 17 percent of cars have missing or damaged gas caps, causing 147 million gallons of gas to vaporize every year.

* Replace your air filter. A clogged air filter chokes off the air and causes too much gas to be burned for the amount of air. This wastes gas and causes your engine to lose power.

Tom Cruise, the biggest male box-office attraction in American cinema, that is, until he recently displayed a variety of astonishingly off-putting antics, has now taken another dramatic step in his imaginative quest to end his career, which was largely based on his once seemingly cute and innocent appeal.

Much to the dismay of his millions of fans, the film icon has renounced scientology and become a Moslem Fundamentalist.

Troubled by his apparently self-destructive behavior, we were able to arrange an interview.

NewsLaugh: You seem to be behaving in rather odd ways lately, Tom. Whats behind it all?

Cruise: You have no idea what its like to suddenly find yourself the most popular movie star in the world when you cant possibly see any reason youd reach such a pinnacle. So what happens is you get this really subliminal desire to take yourself down.

NewsLaugh: Oh, so thats why youve been acting like a jackass?

Cruise: Exactly! I dont feel I deserve the celebrity, so Im trying to destroy my career any way I can.

NewsLaugh: Actually, youre doing an outstanding job.

Cruise: Well, you know, whatever it takes. At first I tried just jumping up and down on

The Party Store

Jan 26, 2012

Every now and then I like to frequent our local liquor store to stock my bar. Our neighborhood store is nothing special, but has what I need when I need it. I have never paid a whole lot of attention to the sign as I entered the establishment. The sign clearly states that not only do they sell beer and wine, they also sell party supplies. Great. You never know when a party may break out and having a store with party supplies at your disposal is nothing but a posititve thing.

I walked into our neighborhood establishment and strolled through the isles. My bar was already stocked sufficiently, so alcohol was not on the list for this trip. Today’s trip was for nothing but party supplies.

I greeted the man behind the counter with a smile. “Hello” to him must mean,”please tell me every insignificant detail of yourself” as he proceeded to tell me about his day up to that point. Thanks. I care. This man was nothing but a distraction in my procurement of party supplies. I strolled through the isles, acknowledged the offer to help me find anything. I knew what I was looking for,

As you are likely aware, I am a designer handbag fanatic. I have been advised by family and friends that this could be developing into a problem, but I am confident that I have it under control. Sure, I have bounced my rent check to purchase a new purse. Who hasn’t? There have been times when I have skipped out on my utility bills, so I would have enough cash to buy a new handbag. Who wouldn’t?

I have spent countless nights dreaming about shopping for the latest fashionable designs. So what if I want to have Kenneth Cole’s babies. I really don’t see the problem here. To make my mother happy, I have made the following pledge (ever-so-loosely based on the “twelve step” program):

My name is Cathy, and I am addicted to designer handbags and high fashion. I admit that I am powerless over Prada, and that my life has become unmanageable in certain respects. I have faith that a power greater than Dior can restore my sanity. I have made a pledge to turn my will and my life over to the power of the House of Gucci. I have made a searching
